Games

For better or for worse, assessment tests are now a big part of everyday life. Companies use them in the workplace, and especially in the hiring process more than ever. Only a few years ago, having to take a job assessment test was a rare event. They would interview you, perhaps call up your references, and decide based on the impression that you gave and the experience your resume showed. Nowadays, employment tests are routine in many different fields. Filling them out is just another part of getting a job.

Assessment tests are cropping up more and more in schools as well. Back when I was going to school, the only assessment test that we had to take was the SAT. Up until that point, it was up to individual teachers to assess our skills. Some of them were good at it and some of them were not so good, but the idea in education was that a personalized approach was better than an institutional standard.

Since “No Child Left Behind,” however, all of that has changed. Every student has to take assessment tests not only to make sure that they are learning what they need to, but that the school as a whole is performing up to standards. Sometimes, schools even use their own assessment test ahead of the state mandated tests as a way of making sure that their students are on track to pass.

One of the things I like about assessment tests as an employer is that they allow you to focus on the personality and experience of your potential hires. You go in knowing a great deal about their skills, so you do not have to try to figure out what they can and can not do based only on their word and references.

Nonetheless, it is important to be careful not to put too much faith in assessment tests. They are good at measuring the ability to complete certain basic, assigned tasks, but they might not do enough to show you how someone works on a long term project, with a group, or under pressure. There are personality tests that can help you to see if someone is fit to work in some particular environment, but there is no substitute for one-on-one contact. The strength of a test assessment is as a tool for pre-screening. After that, you still have to have your personnel department go through the grunt work.

The World of War and Gaming

The World of War and Gaming

“Blasting pixilated space ships can be mighty fun, as anyone who's ever played Galaga can tell you. The Air Force thinks it can put all that joystick time to good use, too -- by using games to help airmen prepare for real-life outer space combat” – so says an article on one website that specializes in reporting on military activity. While space war may be a new thing to combat and military training, army games have been used for years to train the military for real-life on-the-ground combat. First-person shoot-em up games have been used and have proved effective in helping soldiers familiarize themselves with combat territories, air offensives and use of weapons. In addition, they have also been used to train apprehensive soldiers take a gun and actually kill.

Army games however are not limited to just the military. They have seen their way into the mainstream video game market with countless titles like ‘Special Operations’, ‘Desert Storm’ and ‘Metal Gear Solid’ becoming best sellers. Controversy continues over whether army games are capable of desensitizing a normal person to violence. Some players say that they have been playing for years and do not feel anything. While it is true that some people rarely exhibit signs of violent behavior, some people, on the other hand, show increased violence when exposed to army games and the like.

Army games are also being considered as military recruitment tools and as gaming platforms to train basic army skills. Some of these games are manuals in themselves. For example a system called CROWS allows soldiers to manipulate a Humvee that has been mounted a variety of weaponry. This system is aimed at training soldiers to handle the sniper threat in Iraq and has already proved to be a popular game with the troops. The game has been praised for its optics, zoom and thermal capabilities. The game, now available under the title, Overmatch, allows players to operate the system exactly as it was intended to be used in real-life.

In recent years, the world of gaming and the world of war have gotten even closer since combat has become more of a matter of pushing the right buttons and seeing the action take place. In addition, games have become more realistic creating a virtual experience that is hard to forget. Army games will likely continue to be used in both training and recruitment and you can expect that mainstream gamers will see a share of the action as well.

Baby Bjorn Carrier Original – Carrying Your Baby the Right Way

Baby Bjorn Carrier Original – Carrying Your Baby the Right Way

The Baby Bjorn Carrier Original is a product that gives parents a comfortable way of carrying babies, without straining either the babies or the person carrying it. According to the manufacturer of the carrier, the product was released to the consumer market after 25 years of intensive research. During this time, the design was tested for comfort and support. Although other manufacturers have tried to imitate the original design of the carrier, none have succeeded in manufacturing a carrier that offers a combination of simplicity, comfort and supportive care in carrying babies.

The baby Bjorn carrier original is designed in such a way that the adult can carry the baby facing either way. However, the baby should be 8 lbs in weight and at least 21 inches in height before he or she can be carried in this carrier.  The benefits of using this carrier, is that it offers neck and head support to the baby hence protecting their delicate nature. Before the baby is old enough to hold his or her head up, the right position to place them in the carrier is facing the adult. After learning to hold their heads up, the babies can now start being placed in the carrier with their heads facing forward.

The Baby Bjorn Carrier Original is ideal for use on babies as old as two and a half years old. The baby should not be heavier than 25 lbs. Because the carrier is fitted with a sliding buckle, it is easily adjustable to the size of the baby. This means that the parent does not have to buy different sized carriers for the child as he or she grows older. On purchase, the parent is provided with a product manual, which contains details that helps him or her manage adjusting the carrier to fit the height and weight of the child.  This is further enhanced by the color coded latches, which are provided as replacement to the original latches when the adjustments become necessary.

A person willing to purchase the baby Bjorn carrier original can easily tell it apart from the active carrier by checking the color choices. The active carrier has two color options only; the sporty black and the sporty blue. The Bjorn carrier original on the other hand is available in nine color options. The Bjorn Carrier original is mainly designed for the regular sized parents, while the active carrier comes with adjustable straps that can be used by different sized parents.  The leg straps in this carrier can be adjusted to reduce or expand the leg-holes according to the size of the baby. Because the front opens easily, parents have no difficulties putting or taking out the baby from the carrier. Overall, it is a product worth consideration by parents who are looking forward to purchasing one for their bundle of joy.

Aspergers Syndrome

Aspergers Syndrome

Most people refer to Asperger’s Syndrome as being “a mild form of autism,” the one that’s at the high functioning end of the spectrum and not as bad as other cases of autism. However, the diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome and its pathology are much more complicated than people are aware of. It’s still a matter of controversy whether Asperger’s is high functioning autism, or if Asperger’s and high functioning autism are two different categories. As with all conditions that primarily affect mental or developmental processes, it’s very difficult to categorize Aspergers Syndrome according to definite criteria.

Aspergers may be higher functioning than severe autism, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s an easy condition to deal with. People with Aspergers Syndrome are characterized by difficulty in social and language skills. The social interactions that they have with others are what most people would describe as “awkward.” The awkwardness stems from the fact that people with Asperger’s have a hard time picking up on social cues like facial expressions and eye contact that most of us use when communicating with others, and expressing themselves clearly. This can lead to “inappropriate” social behavior like talking too much or disregarding the other person’s reactions. It may be unintentional, but unfortunately it doesn’t come off that way; people with Aspergers may genuinely want to converse with others, but their inability to interact appropriately can turn others off and result in many failed interactions with peers. People with Asperger’s Syndrome may also have idiosyncratic behaviors or interests that from the outside can seem obsessive or odd.  For example, a person with Aspergers might make certain repetitive body motions, or they might possess rigidly comprehensive knowledge about bird species of the world. Other miscellaneous symptoms of Aspergers are poor coordination and trouble sleeping.

Though much of Aspergers Syndrome is commonly characterized by specific impairments, people with Aspergers often have excellent abilities in sensory perception. They can be much more sensitive to vision, smell, taste, touch and hearing than others are. Some individuals with Aspergers Syndrome are synesthetic and they combine these senses. In this sense, they can be much more skillful than people who are not affected with Aspergers. This is why people with Aspergers can be just as successful as others. In fact, some people with Aspergers have gone on to become noted artists, authors and musicians. While being inhibited in some aspects, they can flourish in others.

Creating Arts and Crafts for Christmas

Creating Arts and Crafts for Christmas

Christmas is a special holiday. For many people, Christmas is their favorite holiday, and for good reason. The spirit of friendship, caring, giving and brotherhood behind Christmas is wonderful, and it is not very hard at all to get caught up in the holiday spirit. One of the best ways to enjoy the holiday spirit yourself is by creating arts and crafts for Christmas. Here are a couple of arts and crafts for Christmas that you can do with your children to really set the holiday mood.

Which arts and crafts for Christmas you choose has a lot to do with two things: the amount of time you have and your particular skill level. For instance, many people choose to knit in festive red and green yarn for the holidays, but I cannot knit to save my life! Likewise, there are some arts and crafts for Christmas that can take hours and hours to complete. You need to be able to enjoy these activities, otherwise you are getting away from the spirit of joy and excitement and into the spirit of frustration and disappointment.

Arts and crafts for Christmas are about one thing more than anything else, and that is the excitement and creativity of Christmas. You should pick a craft that you can create and express your feelings and excitement about Christmas. If something is labor intensive or difficult, you shouldn't bother. However, if there are arts or crafts that you enjoy doing and are not very good, by all means you should go for it around Christmas time! The important thing is not the final product, but the joy of doing arts and crafts for Christmas with loved ones; friends and family.

If you plan on doing arts and crafts for Christmas with your children, consider whether or not they want to. A common activity is cutting paper snowflakes, and most kids enjoy this activity. It is relatively easy. What you do not want to do is force your kids into anything. You want as many happy memories as possible around Christmas time, so choose your arts and crafts appropriately.

At the end of the day, arts and crafts for Christmas are just another great way to get into the holiday spirit. If it is not an activity you enjoy, you should not even bother. There are no arts and crafts prizes and there are no arts and crafts contests. If there is something you enjoy doing, you should do it. But arts and crafts for Christmas are nothing more than a great way to express your holiday cheer.

audio recording software

A lot of people rip on technology, thinking that it really does a whole lot to alienate us from each other.  In some ways this is true.  Communities are much less tightly knit, at least by location, than they used to be back in the day, but in some ways, technology has actually given us new ways to communicate with each other.  This is nowhere more true than in the area of audio recording software.

You see, it used to be that a musician would have to buy studio time to record and distribute his music.  Once he actually got it put on record, there would be no way to get other people to hear it unless he could get signed to a major label.  Technology has really done a whole lot to change all that.  Thanks to the Internet, the inexpensiveness and ease of use of audio recording software, and the fact that almost everyone nowadays has a computer, it is easy for a musician to record, edit, and distribute his or her own music to anyone and everyone for almost nothing.  Why, you can even download some of the audio recording software for free.  Then, all you need is to have a computer, a microphone, and an Internet connection and you are good to go as they say.  Best of all, you can use the audio recording software programs to edit and master your recordings in a way that was not possible just a few years ago.  You can give it a truly professional sound for practically nothing, and with no formal training or studio experience. Things can not get much better than that!

Of course, picking the right audio editing recording program can be a little bit tricky.  After all, there are so many choices in audio recording software in this day and age, and you would not want to make the wrong one!  Fortunately, most audio editing software will allow you to use it for free for at least a week or two as a demo.  This allows you to figure out if it is the audio recording software that you really want, or if you should try something else.  And of course, if you do not have scruples about pirating, you can always copy audio recording software over the Internet.  Personally, I would rather buy my audio recording software, but I know people who use this solution.

What Baby Adoption is all about

What Baby Adoption is all about

Baby adoption refers to the legal procedure of gaining rights to bring up somebody else’s baby. People seek to adopt in a bid to either start or expand their own families. There are people who give birth to children and then choose to give them up for adoption. These people may not be in a position to take care of the baby at the moment. There are babies who are abandoned by their parents and they end up in homes where they are taken care of until a suitable foster home is granted the rights. People seeking to adopt a baby need to learn more about the adoption procedures and discuss it with their partners as well as family members.

If there are other children in the family, they need to be briefed on what their guardians are just about to embark on to prepare them psychologically. They also need to learn to accept this new addition to the family and take them like one of them. There are several types of adoption and people willing to adopt need to go through them to pick the one that falls within their needs. Baby adoption comes with a price and people ought to have planned before hand. For them to be granted adoption rights, they must meet some requirements which are laid down by adoption agencies. They must have stable families and must have the material support necessary to bring up this baby in the right environment.

They will also be required to settle for an adoption lawyer who will handle the transactions on their behalf. This will tag along with the adoption agency they have chosen to use to get their baby. This adoption agency will issue them with a form which they will have to fill in with the help of the attorney. This form will show their suitability and the final decision lies on the information they give. Adoption laws which vary with different states will require the prospective parents to go through a process known as the “home study”.

This will qualify their home as a suitable base to raise the adopted baby in. Pre-adoption classes will also be attended and this is where they will also learn about parenting. After they have satisfied the agency with their progress, they will be given an opportunity to locate the baby they wish to adopt. A baby adoption petition will then be filed after the baby’s arrival and then the adoption will be finalized. This will be followed up with more lessons on post-adoption. It is advisable for prospective foster parents to consult others who have gone through the same. This will give them an insight on what to expect.

Baby Care that shows you care

Baby Care that shows you care

Babies brighten up peoples worlds and it is a phase that every parent looks forward to. They transform them into more patient and more caring beings as they open up their eyes to little things that they may have taken for granted. Human nature demands that people give their babies the best in terms of care, love and material support. Babies care is ought to be special and their sweet angelic gurgles will leave people mesmerized by this wonder of existence. Parenthood is a calling and parents will be required to dedicate a reasonable amount of their time to this new addition.

The care taken for a baby depends on the age of the baby and keeps changing with age. Infants will require more undivided attention as opposed to toddlers. Infants are very sensitive and parents are demanded to be effective and more hands on to cater for their every need. Babies care is of great impact to their young and sensitive lives. It determines what kind of adults they will be and how attached they will be to their parents. It is advisable to raise babies in secure and safe environments. Babies are known to flourish in loving and caring environment where there is zero intimidation.

Abusive homes harm babies and this is a fault they will carry through out their lives. It may also make them angry and brutal people in life and their association with other people will also be affected. Babies care will touch on their health and it is essential to monitor their temperature changes since most of their health concerns are predicted through a too high or too low temperature. Medical attention must always be sought to ensure that the babies’ health issues are attended to. Other care concerns will revolve around their needs which include baths, clothing, travel, toys and many others.

Massaging babies will help them relax and enjoy  a deep peaceful sleep. Touch is known to be connective and massages are ideal as they will enhance long term bonding between babies and their parents. Babies sleeping areas must be safe and free from things that may threaten their safety. These include noisy environments as well as the cluttered ones. Babies should be changed often to rid them of irritations which may be caused by soiled diapers. These could be a source of their discomfort since they will cry if wet and uncomfortable. Breastfeeding must be done for the first six full months before a feeding program is set up. Breast milk is highly recommended as it gives babies immunity from an early age.

What you should know about Baby Acne

What you should know about Baby Acne

Baby acne also known as Acne neonatorum is a skin condition that causes pimples breakout on baby’s cheeks, forehead, chin and sometimes on the back. The condition affects 20 percent of babies, mostly male. There are two types of Baby acne. One of the conditions is referred to as Popules and is characterized by small solid rounded red bumps or pimples. The other one is known as Pustules and is characterized by small whiteheads which contain pus. Baby Acne is caused by maternal hormones passed from the mother to the baby during childbirth. The hormones stimulate the baby’s sebaceous glands triggering secretion of oil which mixes with acne causing bacteria. The condition can be aggravated and becomes more pronounced when the baby is hot or is running a fever, when upset, and when the skin comes into contact with saliva or spit up milk or fabrics washed in strong detergents. Baby acne can also be sparked by medications that a nursing mother may take. Babies who are on medication also stand a high chance of acne infections.

Baby acne has no defined treatment and clears after a period of between four weeks and three months. Failure for it to clear within this period will call for a physician’s intervention. The best way to handle the condition is by washing the affected areas gently with plain water and/or with mild baby soap. It is important to note that dirt does not cause baby acne and therefore scrubbing of the skin is highly prohibited. Lotions, creams and moisturizers should be avoided as they only worsen the condition. In severe cases, benzoyl Peroxide and topical tetnoins, for example retinoids and other keratolytic agents may be recommended.

Baby Acne is most often confused with other conditions that affect the baby’s skin. These include Milia which is a condition caused by heat from warm clothing, excessive incubator warmth or fever. It is characterized by white bumps that develop during the first week of birth and it is rarely present at birth. The other condition is known as Infantile Acne. This condition is more severe than baby acne and develops 3 months or later after the baby is born. It is characterized by yellow pimples on the baby’s face, cheeks and nose.  It is caused by lingering maternal hormones and disappears after twelve months but in some cases might persist until after three years depending on the baby’s genetic composition, that is, level of testerone hormones. This condition may recur during teenage years.

Safety and Baby Bedding

Safety and Baby Bedding

When you are picking out the items for your baby's nursery, you do so with love and creativity. You may have very little to work with, or you may be working on building a nursery that most parents can only dream of having. Either way, you have to think about safety first no matter how much or little you have to spend. SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and this is something that does not discriminate. Do all you can to keep your baby safe, even if it means you can not use the bedding you first choose. Safe baby bedding is more important than stylish bedding.

Baby bumpers are usually included in sets of baby bedding that you may get as a gift or that you may pick out and order on your own. Usually, these sets have sheets, bumpers, blankets, and perhaps extras like matching curtains, rugs, or even plush chairs and artwork. These are great, and can really help you put together a nursery, but the bumpers may have to stay out of the crib. These can help baby not hurt themselves on the side of the crib, but they are can also cause suffocation. If baby gets his or her face in the bumper and can not move away from it, they will breathe in too much carbon dioxide and can not get fresh air. This may be a cause of SIDS in some cases. Save the bumpers for when they are a bit older.

You also have to worry about the fit of your sheets when you buy baby bedding. The same suffocation can happen with a sheet that is not fit to the mattress of your crib or other sleeping place. The sheets have to fit snuggly and securely around the mattress so that there are no lumps and loose spots on which they can suffocate. Most sheets today are made to fit the standard size of crib mattress, but make sure that is the case before you put your baby on any sheet to sleep.

Some systems, like the Arms Reach Co-Sleeper come with Velcro on the bottoms to help hold the sheets in place. They make their own baby bedding that comes with the Co-Sleeper or that you can buy on your own. Other items used for babies to sleep, like bassinets, Pack N Plays, and other smaller cribs also come with their own sheets that fit snuggly and securely. If the sleeper of your choice does not come with baby bedding, you can look around online for what you need.

Blankets are yet another issue you have to think about with baby bedding sets. Most doctors will tell you that babies should not have extra blankets or any type of pillow in and around the crib. If you swaddle baby, that is the only blanket that they need. Extra big, fluffy blankets on baby in the crib are also SIDS hazards and should be avoided. If you are not sure what you should use and what you should skip, talk with your nurses at the hospital before you come home with baby, or have a discussion with your OBGYN before you give birth.

Microsoft’s raw deal for Vista users: IE10 for Windows 7 only

One of the minor "features" Microsoft included in the Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview released earlier this week was reduced operating system support; it will only install on Windows 7, leaving Windows XP and Windows Vista users out in the cold. Microsoft confirmed to Computerworld that this was no accident, with a spokesperson saying "Windows Vista customers have a great browsing experience with IE9, but in building IE10 we are focused on continuing to drive the kind of innovation that only happens when you take advantage of the ongoing improvements in modern operating systems and modern hardware."

That's a claim that's hard to make any sense of.

When the company announced that Internet Explorer 9 wouldn't support Windows XP, the decision made sense. Though it meant cutting off a large number of Windows users, Internet Explorer 9 was written to depend heavily on Direct2D and DirectWrite for all its hardware accelerated high-performance graphics, and on Windows' Mandatory Integrity Control (among other things) for security. Direct2D and DirectWrite were both introduced on Windows 7 and back ported to Windows Vista; MIC was introduced with Windows Vista. In neither case were the features available on Windows XP, nor even readily ported to that operating system.

But no such disparity exists between Windows Vista and Windows 7. Windows 7 is undoubtedly better than Windows Vista. It's three years newer, improvement was inevitable. What it isn't, however, is substantially different. Windows Vista did the hard work—radically new display subsystem, new audio subsystem, new media framework, and so on. Windows 7 just consolidated those changes. As we noted when we reviewed Windows 7, the decision to upgrade from Windows Vista was not entirely clear-cut.

So unless Microsoft is planning to back port some big chunk of Windows 8 functionality to Windows 7—and then make Internet Explorer 10 depend heavily on that functionality, just as Internet Explorer 9 depends on Direct2D and DirectWrite—the talk of "ongoing improvements" is hard to fathom. Windows 7 is an incremental improvement on Windows Vista now, and it will be that same incremental improvement this time next year. To imply that Windows 7 is somehow "modern" in a way that Windows Vista is not is disingenuous in the extreme.

There's also a question of support. Windows Vista is still in mainstream support. This means that it's still, in theory at least, eligible for nonsecurity bug-fixes and improvements. It'll be in mainstream support until April 10th 2012. Assuming Internet Explorer 10 comes about a year from now—just as Internet Explorer 9 took about a year from its first Platform Preview at MIX10 to the final release—then, depending on which day of the week the software ships, Windows Vista will either still be in mainstream support when Internet Explorer 10 ships, or will have dropped out of mainstream support by a matter of days, after having been generally available for just over five years.

In contrast, when Windows XP received Internet Explorer 8 on March 29, 2009, it had been on the market for more than seven years, and it too was just on the cusp of losing mainstream support (Windows XP Service Pack 3's mainstream support ended on April 14, 2009).

Of course, Windows XP had one thing that Windows Vista doesn't: substantial market share. Windows Vista's usage is declining, and by next April it will probably be down to five or six percent of the market. A small share, to be sure, but still many tens of millions of users. Users that will be ceded to the competition. Microsoft may feel that such a small market share isn't worth supporting, but if so, surely the company should say so instead of fobbing people off with comments about "modern operating systems".

Whatever the real reason, this is a pretty raw deal for Windows Vista users. Not as bad as the Ultimate Extras farce, but bad all the same. It also means that when Microsoft released Internet Explorer 10, it is likely that it will support just one operating system, with a second, Windows 8, due later in 2012. The company is already being criticized for supporting a mere two operating systems with Internet Explorer 9. Cutting back to one, leaving Windows Vista users out in the cold, is hard to defend.

Aquarium fish magazine

A subscription to an aquarium fish magazine makes a great gift to introduce kids to this fascinating hobby!

Aquariums are a great introduction to some of the animal life all around your curious youngsters. Kids love pets! Aquariums are one of the easiest ways to allow children to explore and observe animal life at home. Because kids can get rambunctious, a puppy or kittie may not be the best choice for your novice pet owners. A small animal, with the run of the house, may be accidentally hurt by a child who thinks that little guy is as durable as he or she. On the other hand, aquariums are self contained, with the watching of these animals being the fun.

When you suggest getting an aquarium, explain to the kids that all animals need special care in order to thrive and that, just like other people, deserve respect and good care. In order to set up an aquarium with a healthy, happy population, the kids need to know a few things about their fish.

Before you rush out and buy a complete aquarium setup, get the kids educated and excited about their project. How? Make an exploratory visit to an aquarium shop and let the kids browse the aisles of aquariums and fish. Meanwhile, you talk with a staff member for suggestions on the best, age-appropriate aquarium fish magazines, suitable for teaching youngsters about how to care for fish, the environment they require and the types of fish which get along together. Most aquarium fish magazines have monthly features on particular species of fish, as well as types of equipment which may be needed. The staff member will understand (and applaud) your strategy of educating before buying. You'll find at least one or two aquarium fish magazines that will pave the way to soon setting up a most excellent and fascinating aquarium.

Get a couple of aquarium fish magazines or booklets, collect your kids and let them spend the rest of the afternoon finding out everything they can about the care of their new pets.

You can also find lots of information on aquariums online, along with some online aquarium fish magazines. The kids will also find articles and tips on setting up and caring for an aquarium environment. You'll see their enthusiasm grow as they learn – before long, you'll have some blossoming aquarium experts!

By this time, the kids may have found a particular aquarium fish magazine they enjoy most. Consider getting a subscription, to keep the learning process going forward.

The kids will doubtless be eager to go and purchase that aquarium and fish as soon as possible. Take them step by step: ask questions like, “Do you know how many fish a 10-gallon aquarium can hold?”, or “Show me which is your favorite fish so far – do you know its name, so that we can find it at the aquarium shop?” “How many times a day should you feed your fish, and, how much?” Once you feel confident the kids have a good handle on caring for their aquarium fish, it's time to go shopping!

Many kids who start an aquarium find a hobby that lasts a lifetime, definitely a good thing!

The ADHD gifted - Tortured Geniuses?

The ADHD gifted - Tortured Geniuses?

There was the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie dates this gifted jazz musician Ray King, because she's so taken with his nonstop creativity; as she gets to know him better though, she finds how he can't talk to her about anything, for longer than 10 seconds without getting bored and going to play an instrument before getting bored again and impulsively painting a few strokes. He was, if you haven't guessed, ADHD gifted. There has to be something about supreme powers of creativity and attention deficit disorder. The ADHD gifted have actually created the whole world if you would look at the All in-Star list of who has it. Among the supremely creative, there are Beethoven, Mozart, Leonardo da Vinci, and Walt Disney. Among scientists and engineers who created the civilized world, there are Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Newton, Einstein, the  Wright brothers, Edison and Alexander Graham Bell. That's not too shabby a list at all - it is enough to make you want to find a way to get ADHD yourself.

They say that about two in one hundred children are diagnosed with ADHD symptoms like having a fidgeting problem, trouble waiting one's turn, having trouble concentrating and remembering things, and having trouble organizing. The trouble is, ADHD and giftedness may more or less have the same kinds of visible qualities in a child. What they tend to call an attention deficit problem, may actually be the effects of being an over-intelligent and creative child, impatient with his current situation. Did you know that when they say that ADHD gifted children have trouble concentrating, they actually mean that they are unable to find the interest to concentrate? Children like this can actually concentrate better than normal children; they just have trouble directing their concentration at will.

An ADHD gifted child, usually doesn't struggle apparently with his or her problem as much as a regular ADHD child. The child may effortlessly do everything expected in school; the forgetfulness or fidgeting may just be overlooked as a result. The ADHD in a gifted child does not necessarily have to be cured; as you can probably see, the ADHD can actually push the child to work harder at his or her strengths. However, a proper enlightened teacher can often help the child develop neglected areas that the child was too impatient to think about himself. Patience is such a virtue, and having the child slowly try to develop that area, could help the child in the future.

Before you try to get your child any kind of treatment, you do need to be aware that in an ADHD gifted child the giftedness and impairment go together; you probably do not want to do anything that could suppress the gift.  Contact psychologists and psychiatrists, as many different specialties as you can, before you arrive at a decision. The psychiatric and medical community is as prone to fads and trends as the rest of us. Ritalin, the drug for ADHD is being pushed like some commodity these days; you don't want your child to get caught up in all of this. If you could get a variety of healthcare professionals agreeing that your child would benefit from medication, then alone would it be a good idea. Until then, who would want to mess a good thing, a future Mozart?

Air Trevel (How Safe is Flying?)

How Safe is Flying?

‘Flying machines have illustrated the adage of our youth, ‘what goes up must come down.’” This skeptical comment was published in the New York Times of May 25, 1908, just a few years after the famous flight by the Wright brothers. The writer, obviously still doubtful about the future of flight, asserted that the dream of air travel may never be realized. How wrong that prediction has turned out to be. Air travel is now as common as steam ships were back in the days. Within just one century, air travel has been transformed from the flimsy contraptions at the turn of the 19th century to the sleek jumbo computer-equipped jetliners we see today that travel faster than the speed of sound. Aviation has indeed transformed the 20th and the 21st century into another world.

However, some still question the safety of air travel. Let us see how safe aviation is and what precautions are taken to ensure its safety is maintained. For one thing, a plane is safer than a car. About half a million people die on roads each year compared to less than 2,000 from airline accidents. In fact, only travel by bus in the United States is considered safer. What makes planes safer? For one thing, planes do not fly in close proximity. Another reason is due to the fact that airline crews are highly trained and have a more professional approach when it comes to their responsibilities. For example, a captain of a Boeing 747 is expected to have around 30years of flying experience and will usually be in his fifties. Such standards can be found in all members of the crew and this dramatically reduces of anything going wrong. After all, lives are on the line here.

On the flight deck, all the primary instruments needed to fly safely are duplicated, both for the captain and for the copilot. This ensures that in case the captain collapses, the copilot has total control of the plane. Another air travel precaution taken is that both the copilot and the captain can monitor each other’s instruments to ensure that they are giving the same indications. The captain and the copilot are also expected to have different meals so that in the event of food poisoning, only one of them would be affected. To ensure control of movable parts like landing gear, there is usually a doubling or a tripling of hydraulic systems in case there is failure. No doubt air travel is taken seriously and you can rest assured the next time you take a flight.

alaska-fishing-guide-04

Before I took my vacation up to Alaska, if a little understanding of how large Alaska was, and how remote some of its destinations.  My Alaska fishing guide told me a fact that is common knowledge to many, but that had eluded me up to that point: Alaska is so large that if it were divided into two equal parts, Texas would have the rare honor of being the third largest state in the country.  It truly is the last frontier out there, although the native Alaskans will grimace when you say such a thing to their faces.

Along with its largeness, and its remoteness, Alaska is wild and sparsely populated.  This is what makes Alaska fishing and hunting so attractive to some many people.  Alaska fishing lodges are some of the most isolated in the world, and along with that have some of the best fishing.  Most Alaska fishing guides are knowledgeable – you need to be knowledgeable to survive in such a brutal and isolated environment.

Our Alaska fishing guide was a gruff old fellow.  He had not set out to be an Alaska fishing guide originally, but then again few do.  Generally, your Alaska fishing guide will fit into one of two types.  Either he is some young adventurer who's traveled all over the world, and found Alaska to be the only place harsh enough, isolated enough, and beautiful enough for him to finally settle in, or he is a native.  It is native to Alaska, he is likely to be a man of few words; strong and independent, and with a quiet but hilarious sense of humor.  Our Alaskan fishing guide was of the former type.

Mike was the name of the Alaska fishing guide, a plain name for a man who was anything but plain.  Before settling into his current role as an Alaska fishing guide he had been, in no particular order, a Mountaineer, a translator, and an attaché to several American consulates.  He even spent some time as a firefighter.  But of all these jobs, he said, his job as an Alaska fishing guide suited him to a tee.  You get to spend all of his time in the great outdoors, showing some of the most beautiful, pristine, and undisturbed wilderness in the world to travelers from all over who loves nature almost as much as he did.  Although his job as an Alaska fishing guide meant that he had a tough life, it seemed to be worth it for him.

Do you suffer from seasonal plant allergies? Five tips on getting allergy relief

Do you suffer from seasonal plant allergies? Five tips on getting allergy relief

If you're one of the millions of people who suffer from seasonal plant allergies, you're all too familiar with the symptoms of allergies to plant life – allergy headaches, stuffed up sinuses, runny nose and swollen, tender tissues. The most common type of plant allergies occur in the fall and spring. Some unfortunate allergy sufferers also get a dose even in summer, from sources like pine tree pollen and that freshly cut grass.

Unless you've had a round of the patch tests to determine exactly what you're allergic to, finding allergy relief can be much like searching for a needle in a haystack. To complicate matters, you can suddenly develop plant allergies simply by moving just 100 miles away, to an environment with brand new flora and fauna your immune system doesn't recognize. There are plenty of OTC medications for allergies, but you've got to be careful that you don't end up with an allergy relief preparation that may contain something you're already allergic to! I once tried an OTC allergy medicine which contained Goldenrod – unknown when I bought it – which made me feel as though I were on another, strange planet, sending me to the doctor pronto!

Allergy symptoms can make you feel – or look – so bad, you lose time from work. A blinding sinus headache can confine you to a darkened room with an ice bag on your forehead. Here, we've got five tips on natural ways to find allergy relief.

1.Some plants cause water retention, especially in the face. Not only does this produce a swollen face and eyes that appear half-shut and bruised, but the accompanying pain can reach the 'this is ridiculous' level in a matter of hours of exposure to the culprit. Try this: cut a couple of slices of cucumber and lay them over your eyes. Over the cucumber, lay a wash cloth drenched in cold water and lie down. Keep a bowl of cold water handy to cool the wash cloth as it eventually warms. Close the curtains. This method of allergy relief helps reduce the swelling, which in turn helps allay the pain.

2.Allergy headaches respond well to oil of lavender. Oil of lavender may be purchased at any herb shop. Place a single drop on each temple and rub – gently. Rub another drop or two across your forehead, rubbing it in with a circular motion. Oil of lavender provides quick allergy relief. If allergy headaches are a frequent problem, you'll do well to purchase or make a lavender eye 'pillow'. If you make your own, fill the pillow with lavender flowers, along with a few drops of lavender oil. Store the pillow in a plastic bag, to retain the oils, in between uses.

3.Drink plenty of cool water during bouts of allergy symptoms. This helps flush allergens from your system, resulting in a reduction of swelling and pain. Avoid alcoholic beverages and herbal teas!

4.When pollen is circulating outdoors, you stay indoors and keep your windows closed. As appropriate, keep a fan running to keep the air in your home circulating. During cold weather, stay warm under the covers, but try to avoid turning on the heater, which tends to dry out your sinuses and potentially increase your pain. Instead, use a humidifier with a couple of drops of eucalyptus oil in the little cup at the top.

5.Run a warm bath and lay back in the tub with a cool washcloth over your face. Again, keep a bowl of cool water and a couple of extra wash cloths handy. When one warms to room temperature, replace with a new, cool washcloth.

Each of these five tips can bring quick allergy relief and have you feeling better soon! Good luck!

An Antivirus Comparison of Fake Rogue Scanners

An  Antivirus Comparison of Fake Rogue Scanners

People who hold out on installing antivirus software on their computers have lots of good reasons to do so: antivirus software can slow down your computer, it can often make a nuisance of itself if you don't choose the right brand, and so on. But sometimes, when your computer slows down or becomes flaky, you do want to make sure that it is a malware issue before you relent and buy antivirus. Some more trusting folks do have antivirus on their computer, but still have a nagging suspicion that the slowdown they notice in their computer's performance comes from overactive antivirus, and not from some undetected virus lurking in the system. For people in these dilemmas, scammers have a little special treatment in mind - rogue antivirus scanners. Let us first explain what these are, and then do an antivirus comparison - for software of the rogue variety.

The rogue antivirus concept takes many shapes. And they always bear evidence of the same modus operandi. Some modify the coding in your Internet browser, and pop up what looks like a Windows system notification that asks you to do something; it is just other annoying pop-up though, that wants to make you believe it is legit. Some other lowlife attempts are occasioned by a virus infection, or an ActiveX script, and will take on the appearance of a properly installed application. Whatever they look like, they all do the same thing: they tell you that they have found a terrible virus on your computer, and will ask you to press a button to address the issue. When you do, they ask you for a small $25 donation, and then disappear with your money.

One of the worst offenders is Antivirus 360, that plies its trade by trying to look and sound like software you already trust. The name itself is a take on Norton 360, and they hope you'll think that it is connected to the genuine article because it has the same number. When they pop up a window on your browser, they make it look exactly like XP's Security Center. And exactly where XP's real Security Center would have a virus protection section, right next to where the real "Recommendations" buton would be, they have a little link to buy their product. All they want to do is get your credit card number to take you for as much as they can. But a rogue antivirus comparison should bring up stuff that is a lot worse than this. Antivirus 2009 spreads mainly through spam. They put out increasingly alarming warnings with realistic-looking graphics, and when you offer to pay them for their cleanup services, they flood your computer with viruses.

In a fake antivirus comparison, Win32/InternetAntivirus always has to bear special mention; Microsoft put out a special warning against this beauty a couple of months ago. Microsoft describes it this way: "A rogue program that displays false and misleading alerts regarding malware, in order to convince users to purchase rogue security software". Once you purchase their rogue security software, they install a password stealing virus on your system called TrojanSpy:Win32/Chadem that performs as promised, and steals your stuff. It is no real use keeping an eye on the websites either that these come from. They keep changing. But just in case it does any good, here are a few of the top names in the fake business: WinCleaner 2009, Malware Doctor, Spyware XP Guard, Spyware Remover 2009, Total Protect 2009/Total Defender/Total Security, Virus Shield 2009/Virus Shield Pro, and Windows Security Suite. Heads up.

The ‘No Execute’ Feature in AMD Sempron

The ‘No Execute’ Feature in AMD Sempron

The AMD Sempron is a line of CPUs that use different technologies and CPU sockets and that have replaced the AMD Duron processors and competes with the Celeron series of processors from Intel. The first of the AMD Sempron processors was based on the Athlon XP architecture and had a Socket A interface and a 166MHz Front side bus. Its L2 cache was 256 Kilobytes. The Thorton CPU had an L2 cache of 512 KB that was disabled but could be reactivated by a slight modification to the chip. Apart from a few differences, the AMD Sempron CPUs and the Athlon 64 CPUs were essentially identical in their architecture, power and features as can be seen in their similarity of having an integrated on-die memory controller, the use of the Hyper Transport link and the addition of the ‘NX bit’ AMD feature.

The AMD Sempron technology uses the AMD64 technology core to offer leading edge performance for both the 32-bit and the 64-bit computing platforms with the 64-bit offering additional computing performance over the previous 32-bit generation. The chip also comes with an enhanced virus protection capability with the added ‘No Execute’ feature that is supported by the Data Execution Protection (DEP) technology on Microsoft XP SP2 and Vista operating systems. This Data Execution Protection feature is supported by having buffer overflow memory locations restricted for any executable code. Running code from these locations allows attackers to control the computer by either loading a virus from different location or other attack instructions. The fact that there are more developed tools for creating sophisticated attacks are available means that network management and security should likewise be given higher priority and the ‘No Execute’ feature takes security measures to the hardware level.

The complexity of networked application architectures also continues to increase and as platforms such as .Net, J2EE and Web Services continue to grow in popularity, the need for flexible support that can be easily integrated into business processes becomes increasingly important. The AMD Sempron line of processors offers such a comprehensive approach by offering, not just server security solutions, but also desktop security solutions from where most of the security breaches originate. In addition, to the above, online transactions continue to grow rapidly and many enterprises will continue to automate their business processes across connected remote computers. A single vulnerability to such systems can thus result in high losses. AMD Sempron solution of DEP will thus go a long way in offering the extra security necessary to contain any sophisticated malware that takes advantage of hardware vulnerabilities.

Anti Virus Software Downloads

Anti Virus Software Downloads

Although computers are virtually necessary for nearly everything these days, you have to make certain you keep yours healthy if you want it to function properly. This is where anti virus software downloads come into the picture. Many individuals with PCs utilize these downloads to protect their IBMs, Gateway laptops, Dell desktop computers and Sony notebooks. It's all about staying on top of things and understanding what the latest anti-virus and anti-spyware programs do.

At some point you may have noticed your computer functioning at a ridiculously slow pace. This sluggish behavior could be due to a virus or spyware of some sort. You see, even though you do not remember your PC getting infested with a Trojan horse or oodles of spyware, it still may have occurred. It commonly happens to people when they are visiting websites and opening emails. Whether you realized it or not, there are many negative files encrypted in these places. Countless emails are sent out to individuals all over the world containing corrupt files or data every day. It is up to you as a computer user to obtain the latest anti virus software downloads to protect your PC.

Always remember to avoid shady websites that may contain spyware and viruses. In reality, a virus can literally obliterate the data on your hard drive. If this occurs, how will you get to all that crucial information that has been stored on your PC for years? It would be utterly horrible to lose all that data, whether it is work related, photos, emails, or fun stuff. As for spyware, this is more or less a way for someone to get into your computer. They may be able to see what you are doing, what sites you are viewing, have access to your bank account information and site passwords, and even be able to track your every key stroke. It is time to acquire the latest anti virus software downloads.

Be sure to know what anti virus software you are getting. Although a few of these downloads are free of charge, most of them cost money. However, sometimes these anti virus software downloads are corrupt themselves. So be sure that none automatically begin downloading when you view their website. If this occurs you need to put a stop to it. Therefore it could be a virus itself. Some individuals cloak viruses in the form of anti-virus software. Ones you can count on are Norton anti virus software, and Symantec Client Security for PCs. No matter what route you choose, just be sure to protect that precious data on your PC's hard drive. The last thing you want to deal with is losing all of your information and having to purchase a new computer.

Anti Virus Reviews - Data Protection for the Small Business

Anti Virus Reviews - Data Protection for the Small Business

The owner of the small business - always insecure, always frugal, ever aware of how any upheaval or rocking of the boat can upend a carefully thought-out business plan. But nothing can quite upset carefully laid-out plans as can a computer malfunction from a malicious malware attack. You wouldn't leave your front door unsecured at night, and you shouldn't let one of the 20 million viruses out there find their way into your unsecured compute either. An infection when you get it, (and not if), affects not only you, it also affects all your business partners - your suppliers, your customers. But  bet that you didn't know this,  a lot of viruses out there today are custom-made for the small business. Imagine that, hackers out there rubbing their palms together in glee thinking of how much devastation they can wreak on a small individual businessman. One of the first steps to making a pick, even before you read a bunch of anti virus reviews for products specifically aimed at the small business, would be to put together a list of what to look for in this kind of software.

Well to begin with, not every antivirus package out there is even intended for every general-purpose situation. When you read your anti virus reviews, look for software that offers real-time protection, and goes to the trouble of taking action proactively on  undefined threats. They call this advanced heuristic behavioral detection. When you do look at anti virus reviews, the best place to head for first is a trusted third-party testing organization, like the ICSA. Resources like CNET are invaluable too.

Imagine that you have your eye on a package that performs well, but is only designed for the individual user in mind. If you want to install it on 50 computers in your enterprise, that will mean a lot of work; it will also mean buying expensive single units. Software designed specifically for businesses makes it easy for you to buy bulk licenses at wholesale prices, and allows you to install it on all your computers all at once. Software that is not designed for businesses, small or big, is not going to make it any easier on you managing the whole thing. Not only is it important to have centralized installation facilities, it is important to be allowed to manage things remotely - just think about what life will be like running around dozens of computers tweaking this or checking that. And having support designed for the bulk customer too.

So now that you have all of that under your belt, let us offer you our best anti virus reviews for the small business. Right now, Kaspersky, Bit Defender and ESET NOD32 are the three best- performing and most cost-effective brands out there. For the small business, Kaspersky offers you bulk licenses for up to 150 computers, while ESET lets you scale it up to 10,000 computers. For the best technical support, Kaspersky is hard to beat and all three allow you to make a rescue boot disk should things fail catastrophically. These three are also certified by all three important certification authorities, ICSA, West Coast Labs, and VB. An unconventional way to think about this would be to switch over to a platform that doesn't quite suffer as much an infections - the Macintosh. The Macintosh platform will need its own antivirus software to for business users, but you'd find so few threats, you might even do without.

Apartment for Rent in Your Area

Apartment for Rent in Your Area

There comes a time in your life when you need to find a great apartment for rent. Of course you want one that suits your budget, and you naturally need one that's conducive to your lifestyle. Well, the first thing you need to realize is that how much the rent costs will vary significantly depending on where you are searching for the right apartment for rent. For instance, larger cities tend to cost more than small rural areas. This is plain and simply due to the great number of people that migrate to these densely populated regions. Also, the convenience of amenities plays a significant role.

When you start seeking out the right apartment for rent, the size will be an issue. Think about how many bedrooms you will need. How many people will be living with you, or are you living alone? You may require an office space for work or studying. These are factors to keep in mind when you begin searching for apartments in your area of choice. Always keep in mind the water and electric bills. These utility fees are sometimes included in the rent, and are sometimes separate. It just depends on what apartment complex you look at and where you choose to live. As far as general maintenance goes, this is strictly up to the landlord of the building. You are not responsible if the water heater or garbage disposal goes out. They have to come and fix these things, which are all covered in the rent.

Some helpful sites you should be sure to investigate when you are searching high and low for a decent apartment for rent are Rent.com, ApartmentGuide.com, and ForRent.com. These websites will assist you with sifting through the available listings that pertain to your area or the area you plan on relocating to. You can actually narrow down you searches by entering rent amounts and square footage. As you likely already know, you will pay less rent and get more square footage if you rent outside of the city. This is just the way real estate works due to the limited space within city limits.

If you encounter an apartment for rent that you are interested in, do not hesitate to make an inquiry. Ask about any aspects you choose, such as trash pick-up or disposal, swimming pool amenities, the number of apartments there, noise ordinances, rent payment times, and even deposit sums that pertain to listing. The more you know about the listing up front, the easier it will be to decide whether or not the apartment for rent is right for you and your budget. Never hesitate to learn more about other apartments for rent at the same time. This way you will have more options open, and can more easily compare rent rates and apartment amenities.

Do ADHD Children Grow up to be ADHD adults?

Do ADHD Children Grow up to be ADHD adults?

Consider this case: A young man needs to be at the hospital to be with his wife in labor; he comes home briefly to pick up a few supplies before he runs back. Just as he is about to close the door before he leaves, he notices that the birdcage seems a bit unclean. He feels he has a minute to brush the crumbs out before he leaves; 20 minutes later, he notices, startled, that he's forgotten all about his wife and the birth of their child, and that he has been steadily cleaning the cage quite minutely all this while. Anyone can get a little over-involved in something not entirely reasonably; but to go this far, is quite easily to be suspected of ADHD. It used to be that childhood ADHD or ADHD children was the only kind; today those children have grown up to become ADHD adults, who are just as affected.

People tend to easily lose patience with ADHD children as well as adults. It's just that they are so well-adjusted in every other way, so obviously intelligent, and so capable, that any problem is easily chalked up to a bad attitude. "Couldn't they just concentrate if they tried", people wonder. Could they not be less flaky and unreliable? That really isn't very kind; ADHD children aren't really this way by choice - ADHD happens to be based in the brain in a very fundamental way over which they have no control. Adults with this problem, often frustrated with their lot are tempted to find someone to blame. ADHD runs in families usually, and an impatient parenting style can easily attract all the blame. As it happens though, no kind of parenting style actually causes ADHD; some kinds might aggravate it though.

For most ADHD children and adults, it could not have come soon enough, the 1998 official recognition of the disease in the US. Now that there is a legitimate name for their suffering, it should be easy for people to find a little more sympathy for their lot. Not that anyone is letting go of the grouse with ADHD sufferers easily. The cynics wonder if ADHD is just a trumped-up non-existent disease manufactured by the Pharma industry to be able to sell a few more medicines. There are also those who wonder if computer viruses are made by the antivirus software people just to be able to sell the antidote. But there is a grain of something in what they charge. The drug that is used to treat ADHD, Ritalin, has been selling unbelievably well in the past five years: more like a commodity than a carefully prescribed drug.

But there is no need to worry with a conspiracy theory at this point; the medical community is as prone to overreaction as any other. Once this relatively new disease is properly established, there will undoubtedly be a proper protocol that will be followed on how to prescribe. For now, plenty of Internet quizzes exist that'll help you diagnose yourself for a condition. You can't just say to yourself, “Oh I have trouble concentrating, I'm impatient and can't sit tight - I must have ADHD”.  It might well be, that you're just more intelligence than most, and get impatient with unchallenging situations.

Accredited High School Online

Accredited High School Online

There is more than one way to acquire a sufficient education these days. Although obtaining your diploma had to be accomplished in a local high school back in the day, this is not longer the case. At this point you can seek out an accredited high school online to assist you with educating your children from home. In fact, you may be amazed at how many people do exactly this. Not everyone is up for sending their kids off to a public school anymore. This is commonly due to issues with violence and the standards for state public education. Some parents want to raise the bar on education.

The way home schooling works is that you first seek out an accredited high school online. Even if you want to teach your son, daughter or several children from home, you still have to follow certain guidelines that pertain to the United States and your state's standards regarding what's needed for graduation. All subjects must be taught accordingly, and certain accomplishments must be met each year or grade level. Therefore it is wise to do a little research before getting started teaching.

One reason you will need a computer and online access in your home with accredited high school online is to take tests. Tests are often regulated and submitted through an education database. This ensures that only a certain amount of time is provided, and there is not cheating. Although parents are generally the ones who teach kids at home and assist them with accredited high school online, there is a greater focus on the individual student that is plain and simply not offered in public schools. While a parent may be educating three kids in her home, a teacher may be dealing with 30 in her classroom. It is only natural that many children who're homeschooled get more attention.

To get started with an accredited high school online, all you really need to do is search for this phrase on the web. It will take you to the website that pertains to your area. Just so you know, a list of supplies will be noted on the accredited school website to assist you further. As the teacher of parent, you will need to pick up these school supplies before you attempt to teach. Some of the things you need are textbooks. Acquire the ones that pertain to the grade level of your child. You will be directed as to how much needs to be accomplished by certain points in the academic school year. It is prudent to keep up as best you can in order to not let your child or children get behind. Start seeking out the right accredited high school online today and get your kid on the right track to a wonderful education that will assist him or her in the future.

Abercrombie and Fitch Models

Abercrombie and Fitch Models

The idea of Abercrombie and Fitch models evokes an all American, athletic yacht club kind of vibe, and—you know you were thinking it—young, scantily clad, muscular or slender men and women. Indeed, as soon as you walk into an Abercrombie store you’re likely to run into models, in person or in large posters along the walls that fit this prototype. And not only do you encounter them in the store; they’ll follow you out of the store as well on the bag that carries your new purchases. You won’t hear many people complaining about being stalked, however, because no one can deny the appeal that Abercrombie and Fitch models have to the public, specifically the targeted demographic of customers 25 years old and younger. However, when you come across Abercrombie models you might notice that many ethnicities tend to be underrepresented.

This is an issue that has continued to spark controversy and remained a thorn in Abercrombie’s tanned, sun kissed side. Abercrombie has been accused of expressing racial prejudice in the clothing it sells, and another matter of contention is the alleged racial discrimination in hiring models. Court cases have been filed against the Abercrombie and Fitch company, accusing it of practices like hiring Caucasian employees over minority employees, firing minority employees and replacing them with Caucasian employees, and putting Caucasian employees out in the front as the face of Abercrombie while relegating minority employees to the stockroom behind the scenes. This practice largely concerns Abercrombie and Fitch models, because models are first hired to work in the store before they can get signed to a marketing campaign and appear in ads.

However, Abercrombie denies racism in its practices, and others who have investigated Abercrombie business say that while Abercrombie does appear to discriminate, the discrimination is not racially motivated. Rather, it’s motivated by physical appearance. Abercrombie and Fitch models are often recruited while shopping in stores based on their looks, and when corporate reps visit stores and see employees that “don’t fit the Abercrombie look,” they instruct managers to shorten those employees’ work shifts.

It’s a sticky situation because while judging individuals by appearance can be discriminatory, modeling standards do have to distinguish attractive people from unattractive people. It’s a fact that models have to be good looking, but it gets complicated when you try to address who is considered good looking and who is not. At what point does discernment become discrimination?

Acoustic Electric Guitars

Acoustic Electric Guitars

For the longest time I had no idea what acoustic electric guitars were, and this is surprising to a lot of people I know because I am married to a guitar player. I know about electric guitars because there are ten different ones in my home, and I certainly have known about acoustic guitars because I have been around them my whole life. I owned own of my own before I ever met my husband. I had no idea that there was a combination out there, and this lead to a confusing moment in my life that I look back on now with laughter.

A few years ago my husband was in two bands, and on of those bands played blues and country music. He wasn’t big on the country component, but he loved the blues music. They had two acoustic electric guitars, and they had worked them into the shows. I had not seen them play in a while, so I had no idea what was going on. One of his band members called and asked me to remind my husband to bring both of the acoustic electric guitars up from the rehearsal space to the gig that night.

For about ten minutes we had an argument on the phone that must have been comical to anyone else who was within earshot. I didn’t know what acoustic electric guitars were, and I thought he was making it up. I said he would bring both kinds, and this confused his band mate even more. After much conversation he finally realized why I was so confused, and he still picks on me about it today. I hadn’t even crossed his mind that I didn’t know what acoustic electric guitars might be. I knew of acoustic and electric, but had no idea there was an in-between.

You can get them anywhere, I am told, and many bands us acoustic electric guitars when they want to do mellow songs, or perhaps they just want the sound of an acoustic. They look just like a regular acoustic guitar, but they have a power source so the guitar can be played through an amp rather than having to rely on the sound carrying throughout the venue. Perhaps I had seen acoustic electric guitars before but I didn’t know what I was looking at. I’m sure I am not the only person to ever make this mistake, though I may be the only one who is married to a guitar player that didn’t know they existed. My shame is endless.

Acne Treatment Products That Work

Acne Treatment Products That Work

No one likes to get a zit! This is actually what many people dread each and every morning as they gaze in the mirror. Hopefully a new pimple did not emerge while you were sleeping. Luckily there are effective acne treatment products out there that can assist with this facial skin dilemma. It's all about knowing your skin type and acne condition first. At this point you can address your blemishes with the right treatments for the job, and do so without making the breakouts even worse.

Places you can easily find a vast array of acne treatment products are drugstores, superstores like Target, and of course online beauty shops. However, you should also keep in mind your local dermatologist. The truth is, he or she may be able to prescribe you a topical treatment like Retin-A or Differin to address your whiteheads and blackheads for effectively. Just so you know, Retin-A, which is a form of Vitamin A, is a rapid exfoliator. It aims to slough dead skin cells from your delicate facial epidermis in order to clear pores. This commonly results in fewer breakouts. As for Differin, this is also a prescription acne product that's suitable for problematic skin types. It is applied topically each day to combat existing acne blemishes, and discourage new ones.

What acne treatment products are ideal for you and your individual skin type. Well, if you haven't already talked with an esthetician or dermatologist, maybe it is time. These professionals can address your specific kind of acne. If you're not sure why this is helpful, it's basically because different acne treatment products work more effectively on different kinds of blemishes. While some people may require a drying agent of sorts for their oily complexion, others may need an exfoliant to clear away dry skin, which can cause acne breakouts as well.

Some dermatologists will additionally prescribe oral acne treatment products for severe cases. These typically assist with the entire body, as opposed to the face alone. They essentially control hormones to some degree, which reduces oil production. This is helpful because les oil on your skin can mean fewer pimples and zits to grapple with. Some companies like Proactiv Solution also offer a unique kind of skin care regimen to treat acne. However, you do not need a prescription for these products, and they may work better for some individuals than other topical skin care treatments. It all just depends on your skin and what it needs to clear up and stay healthy. Many people prefer to test the waters a bit when it comes to over-the-counter and prescription acne treatment products. This is one way to find the right treatments for your visage.

Acne Scar Removal Treatment

Acne Scar Removal Treatment

Many people all over the world are afflicted with acne blemishes at some point or another in their lives. Pimples and zits tend to come in all shapes and sizes, ranging from blackheads, to whiteheads, to cysts, and even mere red bumps. Depending on your skin type, you could become afflicted with one type of acne or all of them. Over time these blemish breakouts can really wreak havoc on your delicate complexion. This can result in unsightly scarring and skin tissue damage. If this occurs, you may want to resort to an acne scar removal treatment of some sort to remedy the dilemma.

With technology on our side, there are many wonderful solutions to skin damage, acne breakouts, and other cosmetic conditions. One way to approach old acne scars is with a laser acne scar removal treatment procedure. This is a treatment that is only left in the hands of professionals. In other words, you can not purchase a device or kit to use at home that will allow you to remove acne scarring with a laser. You must visit a licensed dermatologist and get a consultation on acne scar removal treatment options. They may suggest a laser treatment of some sort. If this is the case, you should immediately find out if your insurance will cover the procedure to some extent. After all, this type of cosmetic procedure can be a tad on the pricey side.

There are other kinds of acne scar removal treatments to choose from as well. Keep in mind that a great deal depends on your skin type and the kind of acne blemishes or pimples you're burdened with. Then again, you may be far past the puberty stage, and no longer get any acne breakouts. This all depends on your skin type and when you became affected by acne. Some people get it at puberty, while others never have a pimple until they are in their thirties. Regardless, there is an acne scar removal treatment suitable for virtually anyone. It just depends on the approach you prefer.

Exfoliation is a common treatment for removing acne scars. Not just a simple scrub or topical cream exfoliant, but rather something like Microderm Abrasion. This is a procedure that can be done by a dermatologist or in a spa environment by and esthetician. It basically involves tiny sand-like particles that are sprayed over small portions of the face at a time. This causes rapid dead skin exfoliation, and assists with acne scar removal. A final option as an acne scar removal treatment is Mederma. This is a topical gel that can be acquired at any local drugstore. It is inexpensive and is directed to be applied to scars up to three times each day. Those that prefer a more subtle and inexpensive approach should consider this product.

Enhanced Functionality through ActiveX Controls

Enhanced Functionality through ActiveX Controls

ActiveX is a framework that is used to define reusable software components known as controls to perform a particular function or a set of functions in the Windows environment independently of programming languages that have been used to provide the implementation. To provide functionality a software application can be composed of a number of these ActiveX controls. There is an ActiveX control in virtually every Windows application, from the Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player to Microsoft Office among others Windows applications. These controls are used to build a rich feature-set that defines their own functionality. An ActiveX control can be embedded into other applications or even onto web pages.

One of the main applications of ActiveX controls is that they can be used as building block program codes to create distributed applications that use the internet to retrieve data, gather data, display animations or view certain kinds of files. Their use can include integration onto the web browser to provide a more seamless functionality. To understand what an ActiveX control is, consider the functionality of a Java applet. These programs were originally designed to allow web browsers to download and execute web content. However, some notable differences between the two is that while a Java applet can run on nearly any platform, an ActiveX control officially operates on only the Internet Explorer web browser from Microsoft and on Windows platforms. Another difference is that ActiveX controls can have much higher control levels over Windows than Java applets can ever achieve. This makes them both powerful but also potentially more dangerous than Java applets. This is because, it is much easier for hackers to control what is executed from malicious websites on host computers using these powerful controls. ActiveX controls can be written using C++, Visual Basic, C#, ATL, MFC or Borland Delphi. Some common ActiveX control interfaces include command buttons, dialog boxes, list boxes and the Internet Explorer browser.

In order for an ActiveX control to be executed on a web page, it needs to do either one of the following: declare itself safe for scripting, pass the blacklist of bad controls in Internet Explorer, be digitally signed as an installation package or pass other default security settings. Over the years Microsoft has developed a large number of platforms and products that use the ActiveX objects with Active Server Pages and ActiveX Streaming Format or ASF being the most popular.

acting school

Almost everyone in the film, theater, and television industries starts out with high school acting. There you are up on stage, you face covered with acne, your voice cracking awkwardly, uncomfortable in your own skin and trying to perform before the whole school.  Needless to say, this is a baptism by fire. If you can make it through the high school musical, you can make it through anything – or so you think. In reality, however, things only get harder from there. Still, it is nice to have illusions when you're young.

Acting schools are kind of like that first high school musical all over again. Everyone in a school of acting is trying to promote themselves as aggressively as they can. Everyone is desperate for those few prime jobs that mean fame and fortune in the film industry. Everyone has taken some free acting classes, checked and rechecked to make sure that this is the right career path for them. And everyone is competitive as competitive gets.

Needless to say, acting school is not for the faint of heart. I know a lot of actors, and the biggest difference between those who succeed and those who fail is not degree of talent. It is not even connections. The biggest difference is how they do under pressure. Acting schools are great places for competitive people who really like to be challenged. If you like to take it slow, however, consider going into another field. You can still be a screenwriter, a movie reviewer, or an editor. Acting or film production, however, are probably not your things.

Picking an acting schools can be a pretty tough thing to do. If you're going to a normal college, it is easy to identify the top schools. There are all kinds of undergraduate university ranking systems. With acting schools, however, things are a little bit trickier. For example, there is the matter of whether you should go to a university with an acting program, or to a dedicated school of performing arts. With a university degree, you will have a way to make a living even when you can't get acting gigs. With the performing arts school, however, you are much more likely to make the connections that will help you later in life. Then there's the matter of whether you should go to a film school, or one that specializes in theater. When you get frustrated, remember – the most important thing is that you take acting classes. If you are dedicated, you can perfect your skills at any acting school!

Addiction to Online Gaming

Addiction to Online Gaming

The big daddy of online role-playing games is none other than World of Warcraft. Not surprisingly, it is also one of the most addictive games currently on the market. As one player put it; “WOW addiction is no joke. At first I played for 2-3 hours a day. Soon I was on for 6-10 hours a day. I ignored my friends and went working from 4 times a week to twice a week. I want to quit so badly, I’ve been playing for 2 years . . . The problem is that I do not know what to do beside play video games.” This quote was gotten from a website that aims to detoxify addicts of the game and has over 20,000 posts of people lamenting their addiction to the game.

When the topic of addictive games comes up, most people picture a 13-year old absorbed into their Sony Playstation playing late into the night and missing school. But gaming addiction also affects adults. Many adults are overwhelmed by their responsibilities and escaping from their demanding jobs, their spouse and children can be a real temptation. For most adults, the occasional car chase or soccer match is enough to relieve them of stress. For others however, the virtual fantasy world can be so engrossing that they shirk their responsibilities just to stay a bit longer in this world. Even when their lives are crumbling, gaming addicts continue to put video games above all else.

Addictive games come in all forms. The above-mentioned ‘War of Warcraft’ offers something for every player type; from fantasy, fighting and multi-gameplay. The game has no ultimate goal and its ever-changing nature demands that players put in hundreds of hours of gameplay to earn armor, equipment and gold. The MMORPG game “Halo 3” is one of the addictive games for players who play online through their consoles like the Playstation and XBOX. Commonly referred to as ‘Halodiction”, the games addiction is well attested with some addicts moaning that they have gone for 19-hour stretches of Halo play. The high-level graphics and the stunning sound effects make players feel like they are in their own movie.

There are countless other addictive games with the most addictive ones being those that allow for massive multiplay or MMORPGs. Game addiction is however not a death-blow and can be treated by setting clear boundaries around gaming. When this is done, gaming can be enjoyed without getting out of control.

5 inch heal

I believe that men often overlook the power that comes with height. Well, I guess I really shouldn't refer to men exclusively, seeing that they do not have a monopoly on being tall. Although men are commonly thought of as the taller gender, things seem to be changing as time moves forward. Women are growing taller these days, while men seem to be getting shorter. Could this be karma by any chance? Regardless, with height comes a definite dominance or control. You may not know it if you've always been the tall one. Maybe you've become complacent and the notion just lingers in the back of your mind. However, if you're one of the vertically challenged, then you certainly understand. You're constantly gazing up to those who are taller than you. Hey, don't fret! After all, this is where the contemporary 5 inch heel comes into the picture. Well, at least for the softer sex.

Women have it easy, right? Now hold on! Just stick with me for a moment. If a woman has a pimple, she can just conceal it with make-up. But, if a man has a fat zit on his chin, it's out there for the world to see until it goes away. If a woman is short, she can turn to the 5 inch heel snazzy footwear in her closet. On the contrary, if a man is short, he is just short. What's up with this routine? What about us guys? Women can remedy their "lesser assets," however; men are stuck with no armor. Now I will admit that I'm not exactly vertically challenged. I'm 6'1" barefoot. This puts me at 6'2" with my shoes on. But, a few of my best buddies are on the shorter side. Take my friend Tracy for example. He's 5'2". Ah ha, and you thought you were vertically challenged! There aren't too many adult males out there that are 5'2". Anyway, he doesn't have a 5 inch heel set of footwear he can slip on to magically become 5'7". He just has typical guy shoes like the rest of us. What I'm getting at here is all you ladies should consider yourself fortunate.

My wife doesn't even own a pair of shoes with a 5 inch heel. She's 5'5" and typically goes with a two or three inch heel. This is probably common for many women of this height. This way you're a whopping 5'7"-5'8" with your shoes on. That's socially accepted. Now, for all you ladies out there, who are uncomfortable with your short stature, try the 5 inch heel for a boost. Just be glad your gender offers such luxuries.

5 Star Hotels

5 Star Hotels

Stars are often used to give ratings to services and products, and typically the system consists of 1 to 5 stars. 1 is the lowest, and 5 is the best—5 stars good, 1 star bad. So if a movie got a rating of 4 stars, you might be willing to give it a try, and if a restaurant received a rating of 2 stars you might consider eating somewhere else. After all, even if watching a movie and eating out can both potentially be negative experiences and a waste of money, a bad movie can be something to laugh about while food poisoning isn’t.

The star ratings system is arbitrary, and there’s no standard star system that everybody uses. The way that the ratings work can differ from country to country, within a local district, from different services and personal preference. Restaurant and movie ratings may also make use of other symbols like letter grades or icons. But despite the flexible nature of ratings systems, hotels almost always use a star rating and it’s well established that 5 star hotels are the most luxurious and provide the most quality services. 1 star and 2 star hotels aren’t necessary run down and overrun with rats, but the provisions will be limited. A 1 star hotel will provide you with the basic necessities like a bed and bathroom, essentially providing you just with a place to stay. 2 star hotels will offer additional services like a phone and a TV. 3 star hotels will provide room service, valet parking, a fitness center, a pool, and breakfast, sometimes lunch and dinner as well. 4 stars has more furnishing and dining and entertainment options, and finally 5 star hotels are the whole shebang with jacuzzis, concierge, gourmet food and the like. You don’t just stay at a higher end hotel; you enjoy more accommodating services that make your visit a comfortable and entertaining experience.

But of course, to enjoy all of the extra perks you’ll have to pay, literally. 5 star hotels are much more expensive than standard hotels, although some might argue that you actually save money by booking trips at luxurious hotels. This is because you’re getting a lot considering the amount you’re paying. Overall, however, if you consistently stay at 5 star hotels, you’ll definitely spend more money than you would be if you consistently booked standard hotels. So you might consider a 5 star hotel only when you want to splurge and indulge yourself, which we should all do once in a while.

ABC Soap Operas

ABC Soap Operas

As a television watching American citizen, you must have heard of at least a couple of these ABC soap operas: All My Children, As the World Turns, The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, Guiding Light, One Life to Live, Passions and finally, The Young and the Restless. You might recall Joey’s occasional stint as Dr. Drake Ramoray on Days of Our Lives, or how Susan Lucci seemed doomed to suffer from the chronic inability to score an Emmy for her role as Erica Kane for at least 20 years. Soap operas, ABC soap operas in particular, have come to be a significant part of pop culture, and like other pop culture icons they are susceptible to the occasional parody or satire. Soap operas are often mocked for their over the top acting and their preposterous storylines. Most people consider soap operas to be a guilty pleasure—you’d never tell any of your friends that you watch it, yet you’d never miss an episode of it.

The love affair that we have with soap operas is a complex one. As much as we might disparage them, we’re not likely to break up with them anytime soon because even if soap operas are guilty pleasures, they bring us pleasure nevertheless. But what is it about ABC soap operas that seem to repel us, yet attract us all the same? Why do we scoff at a leading man who’s having an affair with the maid, who turns out to be the real mother of his son who’s embroiled in a love rectangle that stopped his wedding right when bride and groom had approached the altar when coming back to the leading man, whose become the target of blackmail due to his inability to pay back his debts…and yet we don’t stop watching.

One criticism of soap operas might be that they’re too unrealistic. What are the chances of a real life family being involved in that much scandal? And why are the characters moving and speaking so robotically despite all that they’re dealing with? In a nutshell, people watch soap operas because they like drama, but they like it when it’s not happening to them, and even if the drama is exaggerated, these are still somewhat real events that people do experience. As overblown as they are, soap opera portrayals of life are representative of our culture. They represent what we value and what we fear, but in a safe, detached form; we’re drawn in by the simultaneous reality and fantasy of this scripted world. That’s why ABC soap operas have been on the air for over 30 years, and probably will continue to be as long as the world turns.

Why a 10 Year Mortgage Makes a lot of Sense

Why a 10 Year Mortgage Makes a lot of Sense

What is your greatest dream? For many people, it is buying a home. Unfortunately, most people have to depend on financial institutions to find the money required to make their dreams come true. Such an expensive purchase also requires careful planning and with many institutions vying with one another to attract potential customers, there are many schemes that have come up that allow many people to secure themselves a home. One of these schemes is the 10 year mortgage plan. With those having the payment capacity, this is considered the most beneficial for a number of reasons.

A 10 year mortgage plan allows the home owner to be free within just 10 years unlike the 20, 30 and 40 year mortgages. The interest on 10 year mortgages is also substantially less compared to the above-mentioned schemes. While the rates of interest charged differ with lending services, they generally play on more or less the same level. The interest is comparatively less and less biting in all cases. Another advantage of a 10 year mortgage is that these loans are the best option for anyone looking to upgrade within a short time. Consider also the current economic scenario. You will save a lot of extra payments with a 10 year mortgage by quickly paying off your debt as opposed to taking a longer repayment period that comes with higher interest rates. In addition to the above, your equity value grows phenomenally faster and you get to enjoy peace of mind earlier.

However, despite all the advantages, there is a flip side to this as well. One is that the monthly installments on these mortgages are much higher. This means that your monthly income must be enough to pay off your mortgage in addition to other necessities. If you feel that you cannot afford it, it is better that you do not go for it. For most people, longer term mortgages are more manageable. However, you are in a much better position if you can afford to take a short term mortgage. Long term mortgages have a major disadvantage of the fact that compared to a 10 year mortgage, a longer mortgage, even as short as a 15-year mortgage almost doubles the interest rate. As the loan term increases the rate difference goes up considerably. Indeed, there is no other option better than a 10 year mortgage that will offer fast equity growth, quick freedom from debt and subsequent tranquility in life than a 10 year mortgage.
