Article Writers: Are You Making These Article Marketing Mistakes?

I’ve tried a lot of different techniques to market my business. I do use other techniques like search engine optimization and social marketing to promote my books. Still, after all this time, I’ve found article writing to be the most effective way to market my products.
There are many reasons. Writing articles allows me to demonstrate my expertise on the topic I am writing about. I build backlinks to my websites (always a plus), and it allows me to combine two different marketing strategies into one: article writing and search engine optimization.
If you want to get more from your articles though, here are three techniques to avoid:
1. You only submit to one or two directories.
Although the most popular article directories get the most traffic, you still want to put your articles on as many article directories and websites as possible. The reason is that as an article writer, you want to syndicate your work.
Search engines won’t read your work, readers will, and many are loyal to the article directories they visit. Also, there are many niche article directories available. You may have a better chance of getting your article read and driving traffic to your website by using these directories.
2. You don’t look for ways to syndicate your articles.
Syndication takes many forms: newspapers, article directories, online ezines. Most article directories offer RSS feeds so readers may subscribe to specific topics. Many websites will use these search engine friendly feeds to provide content on their topics to readers.
Look for sites where you may syndicate your articles, as well as sites where you may write an occasional column. Writing a column for a popular site is a great way to get exposure and brand yourself as an expert.
3. You don’t put your articles on your website.
Some article writers will tell you not to put your articles on your website because of the duplicate content penalty. I disagree.
First, of all, my readers come before any search engine optimization techniques or any scare tactics of the search engines.
The search engines want you to provide quality content on your websites, and one of the ways I do that is by writing articles. It’s also convenient for my readers because they will find all of my articles in one place.
How you market your articles is your choice. If you want to get more from your articles with the least amount of effort, then syndicate as much as possible. You never know which of your articles will go viral and turn on a never ending stream of traffic.
